Ingres Executive to Discuss Open Source Opportunities and Benefits

Deb Woods on North Carolina Technology Association Panel on Open Source Adoption and Implementation

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - February 16, 2010 - Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database management company and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, announced today that Deb Woods, vice president of product management, will participate in the "Open Source - The Source Code of Collaboration" panel hosted by the North Carolina Technology Association on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. (EST). The panel will look at North Carolina companies that have thrived with open source technologies and review the status of North Carolina from a global open source perspective. It will also discuss best practices for using open source to save money in a down economy and how to successfully manage open source communities.

"Open Source offers companies the ability to avoid vendor lock-in and reduce costs," said Woods. "North Carolina has the opportunity to take a leading role in US and in the software industry as a whole by embracing open source software and leveraging all of the benefits it offers."

The panel will be moderated by Ron Unger, president and CEO of WorkSmartIT, and will feature open source thought leaders from a variety of North Carolina companies including John Keese, president of Autonomic Resources; Tim Spink, vice president of sales, Knowledge Tree; Tom Rabon, EVP of corporate affairs, Red Hat; along with Woods.
