MELBOURNE, Australia and ORLANDO, Florida - April 27, 2010 - Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database management company and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, announced today that Adrian Hamilton, chief information officer of Peerless Foods, an Ingres customer and leading Australian technology innovator, will present the company's Ingres mobility solution at the Blackberry WES 2010 conference being held this week in Orlando, Florida.
Hamilton's presentation, titled "Being Small, Thinking Big: Mobility for the Small to Medium-sized Business," will provide a first-hand account of Peerless Foods' experience with selection, implementation, optimization, management, and scalability of its wireless solution and mobile application architecture for the cloud. The presentation will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28 at 2 p.m. (ET) in the Grand 8A room at the World Center Marriot.
Peerless Foods has completely eliminated wireless browsing costs through the use of a modified BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) architecture coupled with a Microsoft .NET framework to plug into its open source Ingres Database, enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, and Ingres Icebreaker Business Intelligence (BI) Appliance. The mobile architecture has improved staff productivity by enabling access to the company's ERP system from BlackBerry devices, and sped up mobile application development. The mobile functionality loads from the cloud instantaneously, providing an unmatchable speed of access to mission critical applications.
"The solution has made life much easier for the entire Peerless team by providing better, faster, available access to information. Staff can access Sales CRM, ERP and production functionality without needing to be in front of a monitor, but with the speed of access, as though they were in front of their desktop," said Adrian Hamilton, CIO, Peerless Foods. "For a business that runs 24x7, this gives us an edge over the competition by allowing us to provide premium services to our customers, internal and external."
Peerless Foods also reports savings of $300,000 to $400,000 a year in licensing fees by using Ingres OpenROAD to build its ERP system. The fully featured business platform automates every aspect of the company's business processes - from forecasting and ordering, to full general ledger and cashbook, to production, packaging, and distribution - in order to enable a highly optimized just-in-time manufacturing process. Peerless has also complemented its ERP environment with the Ingres Icebreaker BI Appliance powered by Jaspersoft. The result has been a comprehensive analytical suite that is being used by managers for a range of production, forecasting, planning, finance and sales analysis that helps the business run even more efficiently.
"Open source promotes innovation, and this has seen Adrian and the team at Peerless Foods continue to be applauded across the world for their in-house developed powerful and efficient business applications," said Jason Leonidas, vice president of sales and services, Ingres Australia and New Zealand. "The result is a medium-sized business from Melbourne going to showcase what it can do on the world stage. Plenty of large business CIOs will be interested in what Adrian and his team built, how they did it, and how much money they save every year."
