Secure Shell is a highly secure replacement for telnet, rlogin, rsh, and rcp. SSH allows users to securely log onto another computer over a network, execute commands in the remote machine, and move files from one machine to another. When logged in through SSH, an entire session, including the transfer of usernames and passwords, is encrypted, secure and fast. Not only is data safe with SSH enabled, computer resources also are secure because even if a SSH session is hijacked, all the intruder can do is force SSH to disconnect. And any data collected is useless and cannot be played back. Additional benefits of SSH are that it is transparent to the user, and it demands only a little more from IT personnel than telnet does.
